Mega Millions mania is sweeping the country with the current jackpot reaching $1 billion, according to a release.

With the Powerball jackpot off the table, the Mega Millions climbs to the third-highest lottery jackpot in U.S. history and the second-highest for the game at an estimated $1 billion and a cash option of $739.6 million.

The largest Mega Millions prize reached $1.537 billion and had a single winner from South Carolina on Oct. 23, 2018. The world record Powerball win of $1.586 billion was split among three winners (California, Florida and Tennessee) on Jan. 13, 2016.

The last winning Mega Millions ticket was sold on Sept. 15, 2020, making one lucky Wisconsin resident very happy to the tune of $120 million.

The most recent drawing on Tuesday yielded a total of 5,193,801 winning tickets, including 11 tickets that matched all five white balls for $1 million. Two more tickets matching all five white balls added the Megaplier and were worth $2 million.

The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday, Jan. 22, sits at an estimated $970 million and currently ranks as the third-highest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

No one matched all six numbers for the Tuesday, Jan. 19 drawing. The numbers were 10, 19, 26, 28, 50 and the Mega Ball was 16. The Megaplier was 2.

Mega Millions draws occur twice a week, on every Tuesday and Friday.

Two dollars will get you in the game for Mega Millions. For an additional $1, lottery hopefuls can add the Megaplier which can multiply your non-jackpot winnings up to five times.
